I start this simply because OpenSea FAQ is addressing the needs of its developers and not the NFT sellers and buyers. OpenSea blog does not cover all the most basic details. I’ll focus on pricing — gas fee.

OpenSea Pricing
Register a new OpenSea account — two gas transactions
Connect an ETH wallet — gas-free
Create an NFT item — gas-free
Create a collection — gas-free
Cancel a listing NFT item — gas fee
Accept an offer — seller pay for gas fee
Receive an offer — buyer pay for gas fee

The gas fee to cover the OpenSea registration and initialization of a new smart contract on a blockchain is about $50 in 2020 and is increased to $100 in 2021 at ETH around $2,700. Now ETH is at $4,000 in May 2021.

OpenSea Lazy Minting

NFTs created on OpenSea aren’t actually ‘minted’ onto the blockchain until they are purchased or sent to another wallet. The process is called ‘Lazy Minting’ and you can read all about it here. NFTs created on OpenSea will be visible on other platforms after the NFTs have been purchased or transferred.

If you want your NFT created from OpenSea to transfer it to your wallet, you have to pay a gas fee to transfer it into your wallet.
